Mad Malcolm Productions, Inc. is the creative outlet of Seattle‑born, Hawaii‑based producer and performer Clark Schroeder, better known as DJ Mad Malcolm. Blending jazz roots, hip hop grit, funk grooves, and electronic innovation, Mad Malcolm channels decades of exploration into immersive soundscapes and high‑energy sets.
His journey began in the rhythm section of the Lake Stevens Jazz Choir, then continued with the Whitworth Jazz Band before transferring to Eastern Washington University, where he earned a B.A. in Marketing with a Minor in Music. At Eastern he split time between local gigs and experimental free‑form jazz sessions with combos, while discovering loop‑based production. That experimentation led to his first home studio, original albums released on CD Baby, and a lifelong drive to innovate.
In the mid‑2000s, Mad Malcolm stepped into Seattle’s nightlife and emerging live streaming scene, performing at Trinity’s Blue Room, Elliott Bay party boats, and The DJ Sessions. During this time he launched his first electronic collaboration with longtime friend Rob Courtney (aka DJ ac3) as The Human Element. With Rob on the CDJs and Mad Malcolm on live synths, samples, and keyboards, the duo brought a unique twist to the format with real‑time improvisation. Though short‑lived, The Human Element captured the spirit of experimentation that continues to drive Mad Malcolm’s solo DJ sets, streaming performances, and original productions today.
From small combo gigs in Spokane and Seattle to original tracks produced at 20,000 feet in flight to live streaming sets from his home studio, Mad Malcolm Productions remains committed to producing original songs while exploring scoring, licensing, and collaborations. His influences stretch from Mozart and Duke Ellington to Tribe Called Quest and Deadmau5, inspiring a style that merges genres and eras into a uniquely personal sonic experience.
Now based on the Big Island of Hawaii, Mad Malcolm Productions continues to embrace the streaming era with DJ sets, collaborations, and cinematic soundtracks that prove music is more than entertainment. It is a universal language of connection, creativity, and fun.
"I truly believe that music is a universal language—one that fosters connection, creativity, and enlightenment through shared experiences."
